Make an impact for horses (and their owners), join the United Horse Coalition

The United Horse Coalition is actively seeking to expand its membership base with equine organizations like yours.  Because of the interest you have in providing your member base with information about valuable resources and assistance programs for owners in need, the UHC would like to extend an invitation for Oregon Horse Council to become a member.   Join the hundreds of other Equine Industry Organizations who have come together under the UHC to make a difference in the lives of horses (and their owners!) today.  Your organizational support of the UHC can make a meaningful direct impact for your own members industry wide – just listen to some feedback from some of your peers!

“The United Horse Coalition has been one of AAEP’s industry initiatives since its inception in 2006, formed with other key industry stakeholders who have a commitment to equine welfare and practices which are in the best interest of the horse.  During their time of need, the AAEP and its members are able to refer owners to the UHC Equine Resource Database for help with finding safety net programs and assistance.  We would encourage our other industry peers to join and support the UHC in its mission of helping promote education and responsible options for at-risk and transitioning horses.” –  David Foley, CAE, AAEP Executive Director

Established in 2006, the United Horse Coalition is a broad alliance of equine organizations that have joined together under the American Horse Council to educate the horse industry about the issues facing horses at-risk or in transition. We seek to provide information for existing and prospective owners, breeders, sellers, and horse organizations regarding the long-term responsibilities of owning and caring for horses, as well as focusing on the opportunities available for these horses.

Through the backing of our current members, we were able to assist over 15,300 requests Nationwide for assistance from individual owners and organizations in need, through the United Horse Coalition’s Equine Resource Database, the COVID Resource site, emails, and phone calls since December of last year alone.  With your support, we hope to continue to help even more owners find the safety net programs they need and help prevent the horses in their care from becoming at-risk.  The UHC is an especially important resource for its member organizations to refer its own members and clientele to, should they need help or assistance.

Unable to measure as easily however, is the number of potential and current horse owners we can educate about Responsible Ownership through the free materials and resources we provide on our website.  Through these materials, and the education of owners on how to be responsible for the horse(s) in their care, we can prevent these horses from ever needing assistance programs in the first place, thereby keeping these horses safe at home with their owners and as continued contributors to the horse industry.

Like many non-profit organizations, the UHC was not immune to the loss of funding that occurred during the COVID pandemic.  To continue the crucial work we are doing, the UHC is doubling down on our efforts to increase funding and support to continue helping at-risk horses and those in transition, through educating and advocating for Responsible Ownership and Responsible Breeding.  As the UHC relies solely on our membership fees to continue the work we do, your support through your membership with the United Horse Coalition is critical to ensure the viability of the valuable resources we provide to the Equine Industry as a whole.

To help us, help the Equine Industry, and the owners who need our support the most, please consider becoming a United Horse Coalition member organization here:  https://unitedhorsecoalition.org/become-a-member/
