Using a Digital Platform to Connect Trails to Tourism webinar

March 16, 2023

This webinar will explain the importance of integrating trails into a region’s tourism network and highlight the Outdooractive platform & technology as one powerful tool to accomplish this.

Presented by:

Trails are key components to any destination that allow both visitors and locals to explore, enjoy and connect with urban and natural areas. When trails are successfully integrated into a vision for generating or sustaining tourism, then both the trails and the entire destination can become visible to new audiences, attract funding and business interest, and secure a future fueled by sustainable tourism.

Outdooractive builds tools specifically for digitizing and then connecting trails and outdoor attractions to tourism organizations and those responsible for marketing destinations. Based in Immenstadt (in Bavaria) Germany, Outdooractive is among the world’s leading platforms for outdoor tourism with over 880,000 routes focused on a wide range of outdoor activities. Outdooractive connects members of the tourism industry with a global outdoor community of more than 13 million registered users and has been integrating trails and trail networks into destination marketing plans since 1994.

In this webinar we will outline the important roles that trails can have in attracting visitors, and ways to make sure a trail is incorporated in the tourism vision or plan of a destination. This webinar will provide an overview of the Outdooractive platform, including a digital Trail Manager platform, as tools to link trails to larger audiences, streamline trail management practices, and ultimately connect trails to the broader tourism engine.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an overview of the mechanisms destinations use to promote tourism and how trails fit into these marketing mechanisms.
  • Provide a basic understanding of the Outdooractive tools & technology so that the process of linking trails to tourism can be visualized.
  • Offer an introduction to the role of trail managers in the process of linking trails to tourism and provide an overview of tools available to trail managers.
