New HB 3008 Raises Concerns in the Horse Industry

On January 21, 2021, House Bill 3008 was proposed to eliminate the use of certain animals in traveling acts.  Even though it was intended to be towards circus type acts, the language in the bill clearly states fairs, rodeos, race, etc. – which is very concerning to those in the livestock and equestrians industry.

The Oregon Horse Council has reached out to our allies and learned from the Oregon Fair Association that their lobbyist, in conversations with the bill’s sponsor and the committee chair, that this bill is currently dead with no anticipation for it to move forward in committee.  OHC will keep an eye on this and make sure that is the case, if it does come back up, we will be fighting it and encouraging others to as well.
