Positive Reinforcement Workshop
March 27, 2021 - March 28, 2021
The Positive Reinforcement Workshop is suitable for everyone! From the first time horse owner to professionals, even if your already familiar with positive reinforcement. We will start the workshop off with a introduction to what Positive Reinforcement training is all about, terminology, basic concepts, and how it can solve many problems as well as help inspire and motivate you and your horse. After the “classroom” session we will get started with individual sessions, you will be able to ask questions, brain storm and learn together in a supportive environment. You will learn how to start using positive reinforcement training from the beginning, learn how to have a “mannerly” horse even with using food as a reinforcement as well as using the target, shaping behaviors, the powers of liberty and movement. On Sunday, we will continue our one on one sessions, I encourage a participants to audit the other lessons. You will practice handling a clicker (or using a audible tongue click), allowing the horse to have freedom of choice, using a target, timing, learning to not micromanage, shaping and more! We will have a Q&A before you head home to continue practicing or for auditors to start practicing with your horse.
All lessons will be on the ground unless previous positive reinforcement training has been practiced. Horses must be up to date on vaccines. Participants horses will need to either need to stand tied in or out of the trailer quietly and not paw holes during the classroom session or pay for use of a paddock. Owners must clean up manure and hay. Limited overnight horse spots are also available. No camping on site. Private lessons can be arranged after the clinic if you want more practice.
All participants and auditors will receive a notebook and treat pouch to take home with you.
Sessions start at 9:00 am and end at 3-4pm. The clinic will be limited to 6-7 participants and 10 auditors. Participants one on one’s will be scheduled by the hour, if you have a preference on time please let me know so I can try to accommodate. We may have some pre-packaged snacks and drinks available but please bring your own lunch. Social distancing and sanitation will be in place.
