Mounted Search & Rescue Week

This June, we offer three clinics that together provide comprehensive training for Mounted Search and Rescue members.

· Our Essential Mounted Search and Rescue (EMSAR) clinic provides Mounted SAR members enhanced tools and capabilities. Instructors Laurie Adams and Kate Beardsley have been teaching this course throughout the Northwest for 8 years.

· After EMSAR, on Thursday June 10th, hone your horsemanship skills with the fun challenges of Ranch Roping and cattle work. Terry’s Vaquero style Ranch Roping and Cattle Work clinic is a great way to build partnership and skills with your mount, and with your SAR team on horseback! Non SAR members welcome as well.

· Air Scenting Equine! Terry Nowacki is the world’s authority on Equine Scent Detection, and he has been working with us here in central Oregon for 15 years. This clinic helps all riders create better relationships with their equines and is particularly useful in turning your horse into an active search partner. We have been known to say that riding your scent detection equine on a search feels a little like cheating – you will find that it is the highest form of natural horsemanship.

All three components of MSAR Week come with completion certificates and we are willing to document your efforts for your SAR unit’s manager.

You can join one or all three clinics. Spaces in each clinic will be first given to those attending the whole week. If demand warrants, we can add additional time for clinics in the week after.

The clinics will be held on the beautiful and pristine Kalamataca Ranch surrounded by national forest. Miles of riding in mature forest, and even into the wilderness, for your enjoyment before or after clinics.

During the MSAR week the Ranch will host a couple of pot luck style BBQs around the camp fire in the evenings. This year a special treat: Kalamataca Beef will be served!

The Ranch offers attendees camping sites with corrals, as well as haul-in corrals. Overnight fees are included for those participating in the clinic. If you wish to stay longer, the Ranch charges a daily or weekly rate.
