SUMMARY:Basic First Aid and CPR Training for Trail Crews
DESCRIPTION:Register here for the Saturday\, December 9th\, in-person skills training and assessment for Basic First Aid and CPR Training with a Wilderness Focus offered through Clackamas Community College\, at the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve\, Coos Bay\, Oregon. This training has two required parts: \n\nAn online\, self-paced learning module (4-6 hours) to be completed in advance of the onsite skills assessment.\nAn in-person skills verification (approx. 6 hours) beginning at 10 am\, at the auditorium at South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.\n\nBy registering for this program\, you will receive the following at least two weeks before the scheduled skills verification: a participation waiver\, information on how to access the online training portal\, and information about what to bring and what to expect at the in-person training. The online learning module must be completed in advance of the in-person skills verification. \nSkills verification will be offered outdoors in groups of 7-10 participants per instructor. Skills verification will require participants to interact with others in their small group as practice patients and aid providers with COVID precautions in place. \nSuccessful completion of the program will result in a 1st Aid/CPR card valid for 2 years. \nCCC uses the American Health and Safety Institutes (AHSI) Medic First Aid curriculum. Participants will receive ASHI Medic First Aid with CPR and AED cards valid for two years upon the successful completion of skills verification. DESCRIPTION:Veterinarians\, CVTs and veterinary students\, please join John W. Schlipf\, Jr.\, DVM\, MS\, DACVIM (LAIM)\, and Sarah Humphreys\, DVM\, DACVIM (LAIM)\, for this six-hour course focusing on equine neurology. They will begin with a neurologic exam discussion and will progress into exam demos and practice on live horses. During the afternoon portion of the course\, Dr. Schlipf and Dr. Humphreys will discuss top differentials for the neuro horse\, diagnostics\, and treatment and management. \nThis program has been approved for six hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.

Natalie Sullivan\, MS\, PAS\, with On Course Equine Nutrition will be focusing on laminitis in the Willamette Valley. \nLaminitis is a devastating disease afflicting horses of many sizes\, ages\, and breeds! There is more than one cause of laminitis\, but in this lecture\, we will focus on the endocrine and nutrition related causes of laminitis and how to prevent it. \nTopics \n\nAssessing your horse’s risk level!\nWhat are “carbs” exactly and how do we measure them?\nHow does hay and pasture contribute?\nHow to supplement safely.\nManagement strategies to compliment forage first decisions that prevent laminitis!\n\n  \nNatalie Sullivan\, MS\, PAS\, is an independent equine nutritionist with a vast amount of professional equine nutrition education and experience helping horse owners build better horse diets since 2006. Natalie brings fresh insight and healthy perspective on feeding horses gained from stepping into thousands of feed rooms and working with veterinarians\, specialists\, and researchers across the United States. Natalie is a member of the Equine Science Society\, a Professional Animal Scientist\, and Graduate A and National Examiner for the United State Pony Club. Her masters degree focused on low carb horse diets in the prevention of laminitis. She has developed teff based feed products for horses with Equine Metabolic Syndrome.
